to get in touch! Why is the Dean Forest Railway worth a visit? The Dean Forest Railway is probably one of the most fascinating heritage/preserved railway on the planet, it has extraordinary objects/scenery and locomotives compared to other preserved railways. The line starts off at a junction, It is called Lydney Junction, the main line station is in walking distance, the main line station contains a level crossing and signal box, At Lydney Junction on the Dean Forest Railway, there is the old Lydndey Junction signal box, which can be photoable from the level crossing beneath it, there are then small sidings next to the signal box, where the diesels are based, a lot of hard work goes on here, and the locomotives can be videoed and pictured, the diesels are well worth taking a look at, there are many different ones. There is E6001 renumbered to its old number after being orginally 73001 and 73901, the loco has been excellently restored and the locomotive is now in great working order, the loco has been painted into its old livery of Br Green. The 73 Class are special because they are diesel locomotives, which can run on electric third rail and on diesel. Another locomotive is 31466, which thankfully was saved from CF Booths Rotherham Scrapyard, after it was put up for sale by EWS back last year, the locomotive is now running on the railway, and is only one of two peds to be in this livery. 27066 renumbered from 27103, is another old but classic locomotive the loco runs a lot on the line and is currently in Br Blue livery. As you can see from the pictures on the gallery, 37263 is having some major hard work, effort and attention, the loco will eventually be returning in the magnificent Br Blue livery, and lastly 31210, which is also having a lot of hard work put in, its one cab end has been painted into Br Blue livery. There is a lot of parking at Lydney Junction because you have the main station car park as well, you then walk across the line on to the platform, there is Lydney Station with two platforms, platform 1 and platform 2, there are then lines either side so locomotives can run round. You can take pictures of 73002 currently in Large Logo blue livery, which will be used for spares, as that is understandable as the owner already owns another four of its class. There are then shunters and even a track cleaner you can picture. Travelling on the train, there are many signals, just as you pull away from the signal box, there are many tourists attractions in the area, there is a harbour in Lydney, you then go over a level crossing, for the main road to Chepstow, and you then arrive St Marys Halt, there is a Church near by, then you pass the views of the great Lydney park a great area for children. There is then a station called Lydney Town, this is the station where you can walk to the shops of Lydney including Tesco and to that park, I was previously talking about, this is the main station for the town. The next station is probably the biggest, the station is called Norchard Junction, there is a low level and a high level, this is for the forest of Dean a great tourist attraction, here, there is a high level and a low level station, the higher level are for trains running to Parkend, this line offers some great scenery and runs through the forest of Dean. The Station is very tidy and well worth pictures of, at Norchard Junction, there are locomotives based here, a water tower, pinic areas, walks and shops. surely you should consider this line as one well worth visiting, I hope this gallery can show you the great features along this line, many thanks Jamie.

After a lot of hard working, the loco returned to traffic on the 24th October 2008, and has been amazing ever since.
The loco was repainted and fully restored, for 7th March 2009, Spring Diesel Gala. This paintjob was completed just in time after the repaint was delayed due to snow.
The loco has since been a star at recent galas and will continue to be in the future. ![]()

Lydney SteamWelcome Welcome to a Fotopic Site for the Dean Forest Railway, the Dean Forest Railway is a cracking preserved line and it improves every year, the line goes from Lydney Junction, St Marys Halt, Lydney Town and Norchard Junction, the line has now been extended through to Parkend. The Line goes through great scenery of the Dean Forest and is a great Tourist attraction, it is easy to access the Railway by train, at Lydney Main Line Station, which is on the Gloucester to Chepstow line, the Railway is right next to the Station. At Lydney there is also a working Signal Box. At Lydney Diesels, big credit to the workers, that have been some fablous restoration projects on Locomotives, especially on EDS. There are now many great Diesel Locomotives on the line, Steam and Diesel and there are many intresting coaches and DMUs. Also at Lydney Junction there is a rare sight of 55023. The Line between Lydney to Parkend, contains many cracking photography locations and you'll be able to see some of them on this Gallery. There is a cracking shot at Whitcroft Junction, with many footcrossings towards Parkend and a field towards Norchard Junction, this is probably really the one and only open part of the line as most of the Preserved line is in under trees and scenery. Best Wishes Jamie Squibbs About Me My name is Jamie Squibbs, I am now 15years old. I live near Bishton in South Wales. I have been into the railways since I was very little and I have been taking photographs since the age of 3. I went digital just after the start of 2006, after I changed from using a Chinon 35ml Camera to a Canon EOS350D Digital Camera. I have now upgraded to a Canon EOS40D after also getting a Canon 400D.
This photo gallery will show many and recent photographs that Ive taken, please note that the 35ml chinon photos are scans so they do lose quality and sharpness.
I am interested in all Diesel and Steam Locomotives, I do prefer older diesels compared to the new ones such as '66s' and '67s' but I enjoy my hobbie which is being a Railway Enthusiast.
I am very grateful to my gen sources (you know who you are) and to those who have helped me since I was little.
Many thanks,
Best Wishes
Jamie Squibbs
